ABOUT CHAPTER 7 BANKRUPTCY
Chapter 7 bankruptcy, also known as a bankruptcy liquidation, generally allows for the discharge of unsecured debt.  Clients who file under Chapter 7 bankruptcy usually are able to exempt most of their assets so those clients actually keep their belongings.  Also, clients who are current in their payments can keep their house and cars.

DEBTS THAT ARE DISCHARGED IN CHAPTER 7 BANKRUPTCY:

FILING FOR BANKRUPTCY RELIEF UNDER CHAPTER 7 STOPS:

As soon as you file for relief under Chapter 7, the "automatic stay"

goes into effect and no creditor or collection agency can contact you

in any way.  Creditors are also immediately barred from making any

further collection efforts, such as continuing with lawsuits or garnishments..

The automatic bankruptcy stay also serves to immediately stop any lawsuits filed

against you.

The automatic bankruptcy stay will stop evictions and you may be able to "catch

up" past-due rent and remain in your home.

DEBTS THAT ARE NOT DISCHARGEABLE UNDER CHAPTER 7:

Clients with large non-dischargeable debts may find that filing for protection under Chapter 13 of the Bankruptcy Code will be preferable to filing under Chapter 7.  We can help you determine which Chapter of the Bankruptcy Code is better suited to address your unique financial situation.  Contact us today to schedule a free review of your financial situation and your bankruptcy options.
